Bharatha murder investigation dragged down to disgraceful level and a sorry pickle : witness made suspect

The investigation into the murder of Bahratha Lakshman in the quadruple murder has been dragged down to the level of the culprit’s mother inquiring into the crime. This is borne out by the fact that a main witness for Bahratha Lakshman being made a suspect and taken into custody two months after the murders occurred . The suspect so arrested is Bahratha Lakshman’s security police officer who himself sustained injuries in the shootout.

It is alleged that the CID which is conducting the investigations has found two cartridges of a pistol used in the shooting of Duminda and they have identified the pistol which was supposedly used in the shooting. The most perplexing issue is ,the weapon used to spray 40 bullets on Bharatha Lakshman being not identified or the cartridges being not found , though the pistol used to shoot Duminda had been supposedly identified.. Mind you , there were three others who died in this ghastly murder , and not one cartridge have been found in that connection.

From this , it is very clear the investigation is being protracted in order to distort the evidence to suit the dastardly objectives of interested parties.
This entire investigation has now hit such a deplorable level that it is akin to the mother of the criminal being made to investigate the crime . This truth is further confirmed by the fact that a statement has not been recorded yet of the SSP Deshabandu who was on the scene and was an eye witness . Might we recall that on three occasions we reported that there is cogent , clear and copious evidence of this Deshabandu’s involvement in this crime. Moreover , he is an eye witness . The evidence in court of a police officer too corroborated this allegation . Yet no inquiries are being conducted against Deshabandu . Then what is this uniquely diabolic investigation that is being conducted leaving out the prime suspects Duminda and Deshabandu ?
According to the law, as soon a s a heinous crime has been committed , a Govt. information officer shall visit the scene and shall prepare a special crime file with three copies there of within 24 hours. Later when the CID or the Interpol conducts the investigation , the special crime file of the heinous crime prepared within 24 hours should be made available . Where is this ‘crime file’ on this heinous crime?

When the State information officer arrived on the scene , the SSP Deshabandu was present. He ought to present this ‘ crime file’ on that occasion. At least a statement should be recorded of him . Until today that has not been done. ASP Senadhipathy had gone to the scene of the crime. There must be a ‘crime file’ prepared by him . Such a file too is not there.

Interestingly ,Deshabandu has however forwarded a B report on this crime. The CCD (Colombo crime department )has submitted another B report .The CID has forwarded yet another B report . In other words the entire investigation is in a sorry pickle including the court.

Meanwhile Mahesh Perera of the CID which is conducting the investigations is on a tour of Europe. He has been informed that the Human Rights Council of the UN (UNHRC) is closely following this case, and at least in this crime committed consequent upon the conflict between two factions of the Govt. itself , there shall be an impartial inquiry, they expect.

But following the ‘rogue’ inquiries conducted by the Govt. , it may be a long unending wait for the UN HRC to see results of an impartial inquiry, which it is earnestly anticipating.
